Ben Krupka Ceramics

Ben Krupka is a studio artist and Associate Professor of Ceramics at Bard College at Simon’s Rock where he has taught since 2005. Raised in Columbia, Maryland, he received his MFA from Utah State University and now lives in rural Western Massachusetts. Ben’s work is born from a need to be challenged, to design, craft, and create with his own two hands. Simple and functional in design yet sensual and visually unrefined, his pots record the evidence of human touch — the marks of the maker, the preservation of a moment. Through references to ceramic history, his pots pay homage to those that came before.

Ben has worked as an artist-in-residence at the Archie Bray Foundation and Red Lodge Clay Center. He has taught workshops nationally and internationally, most notably at Chulalongkorn University and King Mongkut’s University of Technology in Bangkok, Thailand where he was a resident artist and visiting faculty. Ben’s work has been exhibited at galleries, art centers, colleges, and museums and is held in a number of public and private collections. His work and writing has been published in national and international periodicals and books including Ceramics Art & Perception, Ceramics Monthly, and Clay Times.
